February Favourites

February Favourites 2016

February flew by! Such a busy month including joining WJ London for Fashion Week AW16, collaborating with NJAL for an article on fashion and mental health, and starting an internship with online women’s lifestyle magazine, Sheerluxe.

Here are my top 5 February favourites:

1. Zoolander 2

I was really looking forward to the release of Zoolander 2, being a big fan of the first film. Having experienced the sometimes ridiculous aspects of the fashion industry first hand, I enjoy watching it being made fun of in a lighthearted way. I think a lot of people take fashion way too seriously! It’s supposed to be fun and there is no real right or wrong if you think about it, being essentially based on personal creativity and opinion.

The exaggerated characters Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) do a great job of highlighting the frivolous attitudes that can be found within certain fashion folk. They are re-joined by comedy king, Will Ferrell, along with new cast members Penelope Cruz and Kristen Wiig. I especially loved Kristen’s character, Alexanya Atoz – a heavily botoxed villain with an overly strong Eastern European accent, on the search for miracle elixir, ‘Youth Milk.’

The film was funnier than I was expecting and included guest appearances from a range of fashion designers including Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Tommy Hilfiger. If you haven’t seen it yet and have a silly sense of humour like me, what are you waiting for? Go now!!

2. Wardrobe Additions

Working at Fashion Week provided the perfect excuse to go shopping! My favourite item this month has to be River Island’s Light Pink Kimono Swing Dress. The colour looks gorgeous against any skin tone and it’s perfect for Spring’s upcoming soft fluidity trend.

Another great buy was a simple printed tee by Christopher Kane. But that’s not the best part – I bought it from designer re-sale site, Tags-On, so I got it for just a fraction of the original price! Tags-On have such a great concept, making it easy to buy good quality, pre-owned designer clothing online for far more purse-friendly prices. They sell a range of clothing, shoes, bags, jewellery… check them out!

February Favourites Zara Gazelle Shirt H&M Boots

When I saw this Printed Gazelle Shirt from Zara, I had to buy it! I have a bit of an obsession with anything deer-like… I love the cute print and the tie-fastenings at the cuffs.

Finally, were a pair of Platform Boots from H&M – a slightly more practical buy. The chunky heel makes these tall shoes very comfortable to wear and eliminates the fear of breaking an ankle. I’ve heard stiletto heels are making a comeback but I think I’ll stick to these for now.

3. Lindt Excellence Dark Blueberry Intense Chocolate

Lovers of dark chocolate, I urge you to try Lindt’s Blueberry Intense – so unexpectedly good! I’m not even a blueberry fan but I can’t get enough of this… I’ve got my brother and sister hooked too.

4. ES Magazine

February Favourites ES Evening Standard Magazine Front Cover

I have no idea how the Evening Standard’s magazine has managed to slip my attention up until now. I’m so glad I picked one up on the train the other week and discovered the great journalism inside. Approaching articles from an interesting angle, ES Magazine, offers a fresh perspective on London lifestyle, fashion and beauty. I can’t believe it’s free judging by the quality content. Now, I find myself sneaking down the train carriage trying to spot a spare! The magazine is published every Thursday and Friday – keep your eyes peeled!

5. Meandering_Mari

February Favourites Meandering_Mari Instagram

I’ve fallen in love with artist, Mari Orr‘s paintings. Her expressive brush stroke artworks are created in the most beautiful colour combinations using acrylics and watercolour. What makes her even better is that she uses her work to “add kindness to the world” in the form of donations to both the National Alliance to End Homelessness and The Fund for Global Human Rights. She also incorporates her positive philosophy into everyday life by leaving kind notes around town throughout her day. Not just a pretty sight.
