I can’t believe we’re at the end of April already! So, what have I been up to this month? A lot of blogging! Since finishing my last internship, I have come back to my blog to put into practise everything that I learnt there. I’ve been focusing a lot on my content and how to expand it, as well as learning how to gain a following through social media. I now have a lovely little newsletter too so please show your support and subscribe for a weekly update on posts ♥
It’s been hard work but I’ve finally got my methods in place to help promote my work and I’ve met so many lovely bloggers along the way. In fact, earlier this month I met up with fashion and travel blogger, Sylvia Sparkles, who taught me SO MUCH about the day-to-day life of a full-time blogger. Look out for her feature on my blog in the next couple of weeks to find out what we got up to.
Now, onto my April favourites round-up!
1. App: Service
I love this app! I’ve only used it twice so far but I’m very happy with it. The idea of the app is that it resolves any issues you have with a business on your behalf, saving you the time and the stress caused by waiting in call queues. So far, it’s been successful in helping me fix a problem I had with by blog’s images (see screen shot above). The agent resolved my issue by sending me a link that explained how to fix it. Previously, I’d tried to find the answer myself and got caught up in hundreds of forums all saying different things – what a waste of energy. Sending the issue over to Service was the perfect solution.
Unfortunately, the app is only available on iOS at the moment so if you’re one of those lucky people, I urge you to try it! I’m currently waiting for them to resolve a delayed payment issue. Fingers crossed!
2. Urban Outfitters Nail Varnish
I thought these colours were cute when I bought them but little did I know how much staying power they have! I’m so impressed with the nail varnish, it stayed on for a good week or so. Normally, I find my nail varnish chipping off within 2-3 days which should just be unacceptable, right?
They are a little on the pricey side at £6 each but there’s a sale on which gets you 2 for £10 at the moment. I definitely don’t mind paying the extra couple of quid for something that lasts much longer and comes in adorable colours. I think Lavender Dream is currently sold out but you can still buy Petals as well as a range of other lovely shades. I’ve got these three on my wish list:
3. ELA London
Earlier this month I went to the ELA London store opening in Knightsbridge. Run by designer, Elena Antoniades, and her husband, the store is one-of-a-kind, selling collections that are otherwise only available online. I’ll be doing a full review in my AW16 Press Days post next month so come back for that if you’d like to know more about the concept and collections at ELA – including popular brand, For Love & Lemons.
Elena herself was so welcoming and couldn’t wait to show us around. Her passion for the store and its designers really shone through. As we were leaving, Elena gave us a little thank you gift – a beautiful gemstone bracelet from her jewellery collection – I absolutely love it! I got the Black Onyx with Swarovski Crystals. It’s such a lovely item and I can’t wait to show it off!
4. Stax Diner
Once again, a lovely friend introduced me to a new London spot at Kingly Court, Carnaby, not far from Oxford Street. Stax Diner is inspired by memories of road trips through the American South, serving a menu of Naughty or Nice, depending on how indulgent you’re feeling. The restaurant itself is very small, seating only around 20 people at a time so it’s very cosy inside – but very worth it!
They’re known for their Chicken and Waffles combo, served with maple syrup. My friend was anxious but curious to try it out and she loved it. She finished the whole meal despite being way too full… I had a Spicy Hot Chickadee sandwich (but actually a burger) and it really was spicy. I’m usually good with spicy food but whatever sauce was in there was on another level. Despite this, the sandwich (burger) was very delicious.
Along with our mains we shared some Cajun Fries with Comeback sauce – no idea what went into the sauce but it was really really tasty! And for drinks we chose from a selection of mocktails as it was only lunch time. They do serve cocktails and other soft drinks along with a range of milkshakes. They did a few alcoholic ones and we were intrigued to try the Piña Colada…. not sure that really worked in a milkshake. Will try Dalmation next time (Oreo and Baileys).
5. Absolutely Anything
Scrolling through Netflix to see Simon Pegg staring at me, in a film I’ve not seen yet – yay! Slightly biased as I do love a Simon Pegg film, but doesn’t everyone? If you’re in the mood for something lighthearted, funny, slightly romantic and very silly then watch, Absolutely Anything.
IMDB summarises it as: “A group of eccentric aliens confer a human being with the power to do absolutely anything, as an experiment.” And there’s not much more I can add to that, except: It’s really weird but really funny. Have a giggle.
