Hasn’t it been an amazing, sunny month? No wonder this post is full of all things holiday. Speaking of which, I hope you’ve been keeping up to date with my West Coast America travel guide!
1. Finding Dory
How cute is baby Dory? If that’s not enough to convince you to go and see the film I don’t know what is. I’m not usually a big fan of sequels but I’d say Finding Dory is just as good as Finding Nemo.
2. Weleda Skin Food
I recently came across a new health and beauty brand, Weleda – which comes from the ancient Celtic name for healer. Taking a holistic approach, the brand uses plants and minerals found within nature to create ethical and “green” products with amazing benefits. I tried out their Skin Food for dry and rough skin and have been really pleased with the results.
The cream has been around for 90 years and is considered one of their iconic beauty classics. Made from just four key ingredients, it can be applied throughout the day and instantly feels moisturising. Described as a whole body cream, it is specifically useful for areas that tend to get especially dry such as hands, feet and elbows, giving them intense nourishment with every application.
I also get dry skin under my eyes which can show up more instead of being hidden when I use under-eye concealer. But I’ve noticed that if I use this cream first, my skin appears a lot smoother. I have tried other moisturising creams before for this particular problem but they haven’t been nearly as good.
I really recommend you try this brand and I’m sure you’ll find a suitable product for almost any health or beauty problem that you have. Their product range is very diverse and with an expert understanding of nature, they also protect and consider the environment in their production process. Find them in the UK at places such as Holland & Barrett.
3. The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
I picked this book up in Waterstones just because the title intrigued me and my curiosity was further piqued when the man at the counter got all excited by it, asking me whether I’d read any other books from the author.
“It all starts on the one-hundredth birthday of Allan Karlsson. Sitting quietly in his room in an old people’s home, he is waiting for the party he-never-wanted-anyway to begin. The Mayor is going to be there. The press is going to be there. But, as it turns out, Allan is not…”
I absolutely loved the main character, Allan Karlsson – a sarcastic, intelligent and witty old man who doesn’t let his age deter him from doing what he wants. His journey involves criminals, several murders, a suitcase full of cash, and incompetent police. The story is made up of a series of present day and flashback chapters that piece together to slowly reveal how Allan turned out to be the way that he is today. A gripping comedy with excellent plot line.
4. Holiday Essentials
Holiday season is upon us, where we jet off to sunnier lands and forget all of our troubles – except for one. What precious items to take with us and how to fit them all into our suitcase? An absolute nightmare, especially for indecisive folk like me who convince themselves that they’ll find time to wear six different pairs of shoes and twenty outfits on a two-day trip.
Well, I’ve found two great products that should help with this conundrum.
The first is the awesome perfume jewellery from Flo Accessories. Created after an unfortunate leaked-perfume-in-a-suitcase incident, the brand offers a solution to having to pack numerous bottles with you when you travel. Using Slow Release Capsule technology, Flo’s perfume jewellery allows you to take as many scents on holiday with you as you like.
Each necklace comes with three capsules but you can buy more if you need. All you have to do is spray each one with a different scent then pop one into the necklace to wear for the day. The scent is released throughout the day so that your perfume doesn’t fade off by the evening. I tested it out myself and it works exactly as they claim. The scent also lasts for up to seven days! Genius. Currently available in three designs: heart, wing or teardrop.
The second is a nifty little accessory from Irals that you can twist onto the strap of your bag, dress or even your sandals to give them a new sparkly touch. Perfect for transitioning an outfit from day to night or creating a slightly different style so that you can re-wear something without it looking the same as before.
I really love it for shoes as they’re such an awkward item to pack in a suitcase, taking up a lot of room. Instead, take your handbag friendly accessory and simply twist it onto your sandals when you want to change up your look.
5. Evy Sunscreen Mousse
While we’re on the subject of holidays and sun, I’ve also found a new range of sun cream from Swedish brand Evy. Consistently voted Sweden’s number one sun cream, Evy’s Sunscreen Mousse is now available in the UK. Unlike many other sun cream, this mousse absorbs into your skin giving you longer and better protection as well as resulting in a less sticky sunscreen feeling. Although, when I first tried it out I was a bit shocked at how sticky I felt before I read the bottle carefully where it states that you should feel non sticky after 10 minutes. This was thankfully the case.
I tested the mousse out against some other brands that I had lying about my house and found that Evy was the best in terms of sticky factor. On top of this, the mousse meant that I wasn’t left looking like I had a white tinge which can sometimes happen with creams. Evy’s products are also especially good for anyone with sensitive skin as the formula is very gentle.
