Last week I was invited along to the launch of BungaTINI, a bar and pizzeria inspired by a back-street Italian restaurant. Set up on the mezzanine level, we sat against a backdrop of stone walls and draped flowers, mimicking Italy’s picturesque streets.
As guests began to arrive, the smell of freshly baked bread filled the room and instantly grabbed everyone’s attention. Placed on the table was the largest loaf of focaccia I have ever seen, topped with the reddest tomatoes. It looked delicious!
When the portions finally got served out along with the traditional accompaniment of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, I couldn’t wait to try it. It was the softest and fluffiest bread I have ever had – and I’m not just saying that. You must go and taste it for yourself.
Next we were treated to a range of sample dishes from sea bass carpaccio and arancini (rice balls coated in breadcrumbs), to mozzarella and culatello gnocco fritto (fried dough with salami). The menu was made up of authentic regional dishes, some inventive using untraditional ingredients but balanced out with a range of simple classics.
For dessert, we had an indulgent dark chocolate mousse with biscotto, which was the perfect sweet end to a pleasant evening.
I’d definitely recommend BungaTINI to any fans of Italian cuisine. Escape London and experience delicious food full of flavour and culture.
